MANUELA LUSSO IS a woman in a man’s world. And that’s how she likes it. “There aren’t many of us in men’s tailoring,” she laughs. “It helps with the selling.”
A native of Vienna, Manuela founded Manuela Lusso in May 2015 after 18 years of working in men’s couture across Europe, including spells with Sartoriani, Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana. She wanted to bring an elegant, European style to London’s Savile Row, the traditional home of the bespoke men’s suit. “I could have gone to another country but I decided to stay in London,” she says. “My true calling was always men’s luxury bespoke suits.”
“Lusso” is the Italian word for luxury, and it is Manuela’s commitment to high-end quality that ensures her company’s success. Her rapidly expanding client-base is drawn mostly from the City and the financial sector, as well as from professional sportsmen, lawyers and politicians.
“These are people who want suits that will set them apart from their competitors and colleagues,” says Manuela. “Our clients are incredibly busy people, which is why we are happy to visit our customers at home or work. As we go through the made to measure process, we discuss suit prefer- ences, be it for work, a wedding, a party or special occasion. We can also tailor shirts to fit each body shape.” A client’s one-of-a-kind suit can be further personalised with special lining, individual stitching, bespoke pocket styles or monograms. The starting point is always the fabric.
“We use only the finest materials,” says Manuela. “Worsted vicuña wools from the Andes, cashmere from Mongolia, merino from Australia. All are woven by Holland & Sherry or Dugdale Bros from Britain or by Loro Piana in Italy. We have around 3,000 materials in a range of colours and designs, and we’re very meticulous with our portfolio, sharing only the best fabrics, which have stood the test of time.”
While Manuela has plans in the near future for a flagship store in the West End, personal service is her current priority. “Attention to detail is paramount,” she says.
